Bonus Blog – Coming Up in 2026

With us coming to the end of the seventh week of 2026, I’ve already got two trips under my belt and 2026 is going to be another year of travel and exploring for me. Of course, if you follow me on social media (check out my Threads, Insta and Facebook if not!) you’ll have seen my Meander to Moldova back at the start of January and my daytrip to Paris last week. Those trips are just the beginning though and by the end of the 2026 I’ll have visited at least 11 countries this year and have passed the 40-country mark in my total countries visit. This bonus blog is to give you a bit of an idea of what’s coming up in 2026 and what to look out for on my socials and on the blog.

Park Güell is one of Barcelona’s highlights and I’m looking forward to spending a couple of nights in the city in March

In terms of the blog, there’s five more posts to come from the end of our Germany trip last year, then a UK rail journey review and a few posts from our trip to the Munich Christmas markets before we get to posts from this year’s trips towards the end of April. At the moment I’ve planned for 11 posts from Meander to Moldova, although this may change when I actually start writing. The posts from last week’s Paris trip will come in July and then from the start of August we’ll get to the posts for trips that haven’t yet happened. For the first time since starting Flights and Times, I entered 2026 with a full blog plan based on trips that were somewhat confirmed, rather than getting to a point where I was finding odd UK rail journeys to fill a week.

The next trip in my calendar is going to be a special one for me as it will mean ticking off country number 40 as I head to Andorra! This trip will see me flying from Heathrow to Barcelona with British Airways in Club Europe, and I’ll be spending two nights in the Spanish city, with a day trip across the border into Andorra whilst I’m there. After this trip to Spain and Andorra in March, I’m hoping to fit in a day trip or overnighter towards the end of April and whilst nothing is yet booked, I do have a couple of ideas in mind which may or may not include another new country and maybe even a new airline.

Our trip to Dresden was a highlight of 2025 and we’ll be heading back there later this year

Then in May is the big one! Our main holiday for the year is going to be two weeks spend exploring the Nordic countries, starting off with over a week in Finland split between the capital, Helsinki and the arctic city of Rovaniemi. I’m hoping that we can fit in a day trip across to Tallin whilst we’re in Helsinki and then the second half of the trip will see spending a few days in Tromsø, Norway and finishing the trip off with a couple of days in Stockholm. This trip will hopefully see us visiting four countries, doing a load of interesting travel (including double deck sleeper trains!) and heading the furthest north we’ve ever been!

In July we’ll be returning to the German city of Dresden, one of our bases during our big Germany trip last year, to spend another week exploring the city and some of more of the surrounding area. Dresden was a great city to visit back in September and whilst the journey to and from won’t be quite as adventurous as the overnight ferry and sleeper train we did last year, it’ll still involve a flight and a train so there’ll be plenty to write about. I’m also hoping to fit in the day trip to Leipzig that we didn’t have time for in September, as this is another great German city but one I haven’t been back to since my visit in 2013.

I last visited Madrid in 2019 and I’m looking forward to heading back to the Spanish capital later this year

Whilst the bulk of our planned trips are in the first seven months of the year, we’re hoping to squeeze in a couple of shorter ones towards the end of the year. First up I’m hoping to be heading back to Spain again, this time for to us to spend a few days in Madrid, another city that I’ve previously visited and loved but haven’t had chance to get back to yet. Then to round off the year we’re hoping to do similar to our Munich trip at the end of 2025 and have a long weekend at a European Christmas market. We’ve got a couple of ideas for the destination in mind, but if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know! So there’s plenty for me to look forward to in 2026 and if you want to come along for the ride, please subscribe.
