With the one full non-travel day having been spent exploring the city and country of San Marino, I had made sure that my train out of Rimini was late enough to give me a chance to explore the city before I had to head to the station. As such day 5 of (Not Quite) All the Small Things started with me heading away from Rimini’s station to the first of many Roman ruins, the Roman Amphitheatre.

The Most Serene Republic of San Marino
Having arrived in Rimini onboard a Trenitalia Frecciarossa from Bologna, I had two nights and about one and a half days based on the Adriatic Coast. Whilst I wanted to spend some time exploring the city itself, the main purpose of my stay was to tick off another micro-nation, San Marino.
Liechtenstein
Day 2 of (Not Quite) All the Small Things had ended in the Swiss town of Sargans in the east of country following rail journeys with DB and SBB. Day 3 was another full day of travel but started a bit differently, with a bus across an international border.
Luxembourg City
The second train of (Not Quite) All the Small Things had brought me across Belgium into my second Benelux country of the trip and my 29th ever, Luxembourg. As with many smaller nations, the country and its capital city share the same common name, although the country is officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, whilst the city is technically Luxembourg City.
Gouda & Rotterdam
Having spent some time travelling on and reviewing the Dutch rail network, I had the rest of the day to explore some more of The Netherlands and so started heading towards another of the country’s major cities, Rotterdam. However, before making it to Rotterdam, there was one more town I wanted to visit. Gouda.
Utrecht – The City of a Million Bicycles
Having arrived into Utrecht onboard an ICE International service, I headed to my hostel to check in, freshen up and most importantly have a nap. Staying at the BUNK Hostel a stones thrown from Utrecht Centraal station, it was just a few minutes after getting off the train that I was checking in.
