After a packed stay in Bratislava, it was time to head back to Hlavna station to start the final leg of my trip. Heading to Prague for the final couple of nights of the trip, this leg was starting with a four-and-a-half-hour journey across Slovakia and Czechia onboard the Hungaria.

Bratislava – The Little Big City
Located on the border between Bratislava’s new and old towns, Hlavna station is the city’s (and possibly Slovakia’s) most important railway station with direct connections to Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and the rest of Slovakia. I arrived into the station just after 1800 onboard the EC272 from Budapest.
BUD-BTS CD/ZSSK/MAV Metropolitan – 2nd Class
After less than 36 hours in the Hungarian capital and a day of aviation geekery that didn’t quite go to plan, I was back at Nyugati station ready to take the second international train of the trip, the Metropolitan from Budapest to Bratislava in 2nd class.
Budapest – The Heart of Europe
Having travelled from Prague on the Metropol Sleeper, I arrived into the stunning Budapest Nyugati station about eight in the morning. With under 48 hours in the Hungarian capital, I had limited time to explore and so the first task was to find somewhere to dump my bag.
Budapest – Spotting at the Visitor Terrace
As part of my stay in the Hungarian capital I had intended to visit the Budapest Aviation Cultural Centre, an aviation museum located adjacent to the airport and so travelled out of the city centre to the Ferihegy district. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to check the museum’s opening times and so, having found it closed, decided to make the most of my trip to the airport and do some spotting.
PRG-BUD Metropol Sleeper – 2nd Class Sleeper
Having arrived into Prague on a Lufthansa Cityline flight from Munich (read about that here), I had intended to make my way into the city using the AE100 bus direct to Hlavní station, however somehow ended up getting on one of the local buses and heading into the city via Veleslavín and a local train to Masarykovo station.
