Having had a few days in Glasgow for work it was time to head home. After my disastrous journey north via the West Coast Mainline, I had decided to travel home via my more traditional route of LNER and the East Coast Mainline (ECML) but with a slight difference as I was getting the only direct train from Glasgow to Peterborough.

Exploring the East Coast – Dunbar & Reston
Another trip to Scotland provided the opportunity to tick off a couple more stations on the East Coast Mainline (ECML) with another episode of Exploring the East Coast. With England completed back in the last episode, episode 13, the number of stations left to complete is dwindling. This episode will cover both Dunbar and, at the time of visit, the ECML’s newest station at Reston.
EUS-GLC Avanti West Coast – Standard
Having made most of my trips to Scotland via the East Coast Mainline during 2023, a work trip in September provided the opportunity to try out a different route and see what Avanti West Coast (AWC) was offering via the West Coast Mainline. Having headed down to London on a Thameslink service, I made the short walk through the back streets from St Pancras to Euston, arriving around half an hour before my 1130 departure was scheduled to leave.
ARN to LHR SAS Connect Economy
Two thirds of the way through my journey from Aarhus to Heathrow, I had just arrived at Stockholm Arlanda from Copenhagen and had just over three hours before my final flight of the day to London onboard SAS Connect. As such, it was time to try out SAS’s business class lounge at airport, having paid for access along with my flights.
CPH to ARN SAS Economy
With the first leg of my unplanned tour of Scandinavia completed, I had a booked 55-minute connection at Copenhagen airport to make the second leg, a flight from Copenhagen to Stockholm. Thankfully my flight from Aarhus had arrived in early, giving me an extra 10 minutes and reducing the stress slightly.
AAR to CPH CityJet opf SAS Economy
Having been abandoned at Aarhus airport by Ryanair, I had booked myself some alternative flights home and had stayed the night at the airport hotel. The following morning, I made the 20 second walk from my room back down to the check-in area, and checked myself in at one of the kiosks for the three legs of my journey home.
