Following from last week’s blog about 5 places I’d like to visit within the UK, this week it’s the turn of Europe to feature in a similar list as I cover 5 places I’d like to visit in Europe. Ranging from the most western capital city on the continent to two of the Baltic’s port cities, my top 5 cover all sorts of history, culture and things to do.
I think its safe to say that 2020 has not been the year for travel, and although I was lucky and got a couple of trips in before lockdown, I have definitely been suffering from wanderlust during the summer. With travel opportunities hopefully starting to open up again in the near future, I’ve decided to do a series of blogs covering places on my bucket list. This one has five places within the UK, and next week one will follow with five places in Europe.
The Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city, is one I’ve visited a few times for various reasons. With a wide range of culture and industry, as a destination, the city manages to meet the needs of a wide range of travellers from business travellers to couple enjoying a weekend away and everything in between.
Back during the depths of lockdown, in line with the guidance at the time, we decided to make use of the good weather and head from Cambridgeshire to the Norfolk coast and spend a socially distanced day by the seaside.
Back in October 2018 we were lucky enough to attend an ‘All the Stations’ event at Southwark cathedral where Geoff and Vicki signed our copy of the book and Geoff wrote “Go on an adventure! (By train) (Go to Heckington!)”. So, finally, in the middle of July 2020, we did.
Dover is one of the UK’s major ports, providing a vital connection across the narrow Straits of Dover to France & continental Europe. The town has been an important town since at least Roman times when it became a fortified port and has served as a key point in the defence of the nation during multiple conflicts from the Napoleonic Wars to World War 2.
