This post covers the second part of our holiday in Somerset, so if you’ve not yet read part one, I’d recommend reading that first. You can find it here. If you have read part one, you’ll know that it covered the first three days of the holiday and so we’ll start this post with day 4 and a visit to one of England’s smallest cities.

A Week In Somerset – Part 1
Back in April we had a week off work together and had decided to head down and visit a part of England we hadn’t explored much before, Somerset. Both of us had visited as children, mostly enroute to Devon and Cornwall, but neither of us had really spent any time exploring the county, other than the city of Bath, during adulthood. However, because it made complete sense, our route from Cambridgeshire to Somerset would take us via West Sussex to visit friends.
BRE to STN Ryanair Economy
After just over 24 hours in the German city of Bremen, it was time to head home and that of course meant a Ryanair flight back to Stansted. I was hoping for another short uneventful flight, partly as I had work at 0600 the following day and had chosen Bremen for this trip because the return flight was balanced perfectly between allowing time to explore and getting back at a reasonable time. Whilst the flight itself was short and uneventful, the lead up to it was not, so keep reading if you want to join me when things don’t quite go to plan.
Bremen – Spotting at the Airport Spotters’ Terrace
With Bremen Airport having a free Spotters’ Terrace within the terminal building, it would have been rude to spend a couple of days in the city without at least paying the terrace a short visit. I actually ended up visiting twice, once immediately after arriving, to enable me to see my inbound aircraft depart back to Stansted, and once the afternoon of my first day in the city before heading to my hotel. So, is a visit worth it?
The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen
Having arrived in Bremen on a Ryanair flight from Stansted (read about that here), the first of three planned trips to Germany I would be taking in 2025 was underway. Rather than just being an extreme day trip, I was staying overnight near the airport and so had plenty of time to explore the city, starting with the historic city centre. Having watched my aircraft depart back to England, it was time to begin my explorations, starting with a short tram ride into the city.
STN to BRE Ryanair Economy
After seemingly working every Bank Holiday weekend in 2024, I was pleased to have ended up only being rostered to work on the Bank Holiday Monday itself for the 2025 Late May Bank Holiday and so I decided to make use of the weekend and head out of the UK for a trip somewhere. Bremen is a destination that I have planned a trip to previously, but for one reason or another didn’t actually make, and so with some cheap Ryanair flights available, it seemed like the time to visit the German city. And so, early on a Bank Holiday Saturday, I was at Harlow Town station waiting for a delayed Stansted Express to the airport.
