London Heathrow to Munich – British Airways in Economy

Airline:  British Airways

Flight #: BA956

Route:    LHR-MUC

Class:    Economy

Seat:     28A

Date:     Thursday 27th November 2025

The end of November 2025 saw us having a weekend away to visit one of the European Christmas Markets and so, after much deliberation earlier in the year, we had booked return flights from Heathrow to Munich with British Airways. Wanting to maximise our time in the German city, we had booked an evening flight and so, after Beth had finished work for the day, we met in the check-in area of Heathrow Terminal 5. Unfortunately, the journey didn’t start as smoothly as I had hoped, mainly through my own error.

As with all international flights, we were required to provide Advance Passenger Information ahead of the flight and whilst I had done mine at the time of booking, I had unfortunately forgotten to do Beth’s until the night before. This seemingly was too late, as at the airport Beth wasn’t able to check-in at the self-serve kiosks and so, after visiting four of the eight check-in zones, we managed to find the correct human to get us checked in. There was also a bit of a queue at security, with Beth’s bag being pulled for a search to top it all off, and so it took us around 30 minutes from Beth arriving at the airport to us getting us through to departures.

G-EUUS, another member of BA’s Airbus A320-200 fleet arriving at LHR earlier in the day

Our first stop in departures was to find some food and, after ruling out the Gordon Ramsay place for its extortionate prices (even for an airport), we ended up in Wagamamas. Our timings ended up working out quite well as we were just finishing as our gate was announced at 1900 and had a short walk downstairs to reach the gate around 10 minutes later. Obviously, there was the usual wait whilst various boarding groups were called but we were eventually onboard the aircraft at 1925. As we settled into our seats it soon became obvious that it was a very full flight and plenty of people had way too much hand luggage and so we were glad to have checked in our cases! Everyone was eventually in their seats with all their luggage stored at 1942.

Our aircraft for the flight to Munich was G-EUUC, an almost 24-year-old Airbus A320-200 which had flown with BA throughout its life, since its delivery in February 2002. Having started its day in Heathrow, the aircraft had done return flights to Frankfurt and Barcelona, with our flight to Munich being its last of the day before night-stopping in the German city. We were in seats 28A & B, in the third row from the rear and despite the aircraft’s age it had a modern cabin with power sockets down by our knees and slim line seats. Unfortunately, there wasn’t great leg room, however it was only going to be a relatively short flight so it wasn’t too bad.

G-EUPK was parked next to us at Terminal 5A

As boarding came to an end Captain Giles gave his pre-departure announcement, with us having an expected 15-to-20-minute taxi and a flight time of around 90 minutes once we were in the air. Pushback started at 1946 and I was able to get a good view of G-EUPK that was parked next to us preparing to operate BA752 to Geneva, as well as G-TTNA the ‘BA Better World’ liveried A320neo pushing back from T5B. Our taxi to runway 27L started at 1952 with us passing the ‘toaster racks’ of Terminal 5 and Terminal 2 before we joined the queue for departure in 14th. As we took off at 2018, I was able to see a Singapore Airlines Cargo Boeing 747 parked on the cargo ramp, along with a DHL Airbus which looked like it was on ‘the naughty step’ with it parked up facing away from the cargo terminal.

Our route took us out to the UK coast at Dover and then east towards Belgium, passing over Brussels around 2045, although a large cloud bank stopped me seeing even a glimpse of light from the Belgian capital. Crossing into Germany to the east of Liege around 40 minutes after departing Heathrow, we then headed south-east, passing over Frankfurt around 2112 with the captain announcing we were around 30 minutes from Munich. As we descended towards the Bavarian capital the clouds began to clear and we were able to see the towns of Augsburg and Ingolstadt lit up below us.

Heathrow was lit up spectacularly as we taxied to the runway

Landing smoothly on runway 26R three minutes early at 2242, we taxied towards Munich’s terminal 2, passing what appeared to be a new pier that’s under construction and parking on stand 113 five minutes later. Doors were opened shortly after and after waiting whilst most of the rest of the aircraft alighted, we were off the aircraft at 2258. Unfortunately, this meant we were at the back of the queue for passport control, which with everyone providing their biometric data took a while, but we were in arrivals and jumping in a taxi to town (don’t do this, the airport is a fair distance from the city) at 2316.

Compared to our flight with BA to Stuttgart in the summer, this one to Munich was much busier and with less space to spread out was a little bit more cramped. However, it was still relatively comfortable and we arrived on time, with all of the crew being friendly and helpful throughout the flight. The check-in experience wasn’t great and whilst this was partly my fault, I’m still not sure why we were passed from pillar to post to get the issue sorted. Whilst I know BA has had some bad press over recent years (and their website/app give the year 2000 vibes), our flights with them in 2025 had all been pretty smooth sailing.
